Using the search function

I have always had trouble using the "Search" function on this website. The dialog says to choose an area that you are searching within... but I don't see any options? Did I see only options for like, Freshwater, Saltwater, rives, etc. etc.
What I really want to do is search in an open format within the whole forum, another words search under anything that has ever been posted anywhere on the forum. (I'm looking for something that has been posted before regarding boat license requirements) But when you search under license... you get nothing but lake reports where somebody used the word license.

I searched for "boat license" and came up with results. Give it a try.

Marc,
I did just that... under the search function, searched for boat license,, and I came up with about 33 lake reports that have the word license somewhere embedded in the report.
How do you search for subject/topics within the forums?

There are actually two search functions.
>The search button on the large banner on the top of the page(Home, Reports, Forums, Search, Features, etc) will give you lake reports results.
>The other search is on the smaller banner below the main banner while you are in the forum(Inbox, Search, Active Topics, My Profile, Members & Logout)
You want to use the search inside the forum (smaller banner). This will give you topics discussed inside the forum, not lake reports. There is a drop down menu to select the subject you want to search. Select Boats and Boating Topics from that menu. Type in Boat License and you should get all discussions relating to licensing a boat.

I don't know why over the last 2.5 years I've never noticed that there is a smaller banner bar with the other functions,, search, etc.
That is a great resource, thanks for the tip.

It never ceases to amaze me what people aren't aware is on the site. It's a big site and ten years worth of srticles, reports, etc is buried in it. THe search feature is a great way to pull stuff out, but I agree it isn't flawless. I know it's something Aaron works hard on to keep improving.
