How do I use "Sockeye" instead of "Salmon" when submitting a fish report? My drop-down does not include sockeye as a selection option.

RE:--Salmon vs. Sockeye--
I just input a marine area 1 report, and I was able to select "Sockeye Salmon" from the drop down.
Edit: Ah hah! It appears the species list is different for freshwater reports. I started a fake report for freshwater and there was only "Salmon" and no species to indicate with it.
(don't worry, didn't submit the bogus report!)

Re: --Salmon vs. Sockeye--
You could call them Kokanee, real big ones, we'll understand.

Re: --Salmon vs. Sockeye--
I've only known kokanee as landlocked sockeye. 1st time I've heard it reference as Coho. But I'm no expert, lol.racfish wrote:Kokanee to me are landlocked Coho. Now Im far about being Mr righr . Its just my recollection from many many years ago . But then Ive been wrong before.
*edit*
Didn't realize this thread was old. My bad for the bump.
Re: --Salmon vs. Sockeye--
LONG time ago they called kokanee silver trout. Kokanee are landlocked sockeye salmon. In a lake like Baker they differentiate between sockeye and kokanee by size.

Re: --Salmon vs. Sockeye--
Thanks Toni. For the clarification. Im not always right either.
Re: --Salmon vs. Sockeye--
As I understand, there are also landlocked coho which are classified as kokanee, but they are rarely planted.

Landlocked coho are silvers. Landlocked sockeye are kokanee.Dan Boone wrote:As I understand, there are also landlocked coho which are classified as kokanee, but they are rarely planted.

Re: --Salmon vs. Sockeye--
And the ID problem comes about when folks call kokanee "silvers" (I'm guilty of that myself) which they technically are not.Toni wrote:Landlocked coho are silvers. Re: --Salmon vs. Sockeye--
That's exactly what I was thinking. My wife's family is from North Idaho and that's where I first heard them called bluebacks.
