annoying advertising on website

Mike/Aaron, just my un-asked for 2 cents,, but if there was a choice between advertising on the website that was of the type which DOES NOT send up big posters when your mouse runs over the advertisement... then I would vote for that kind of advertising. Lately we are overrun with these things that whenever your mouse hits them, they cover up what you want to see.
But if they pay the big bucks... then I guess I understand.

Yah, I've noticed as well. Especially annoying when trying to view pictures and they cover up the picture you are trying to view.

The advertising on this website with the ladies in bikinis that I see on the front page everyone now and then remind me of the past days when I used to use hotmail as my email service, its all they used to have.

Just tell them that I personly refuse to purchase from a company that has irritating ads. Years ago I complained to the radio station about the car commercials that 'yelled' the info/ad. Soon afterwords the ads went away.

We have a pretty good relationship with Outside Hub. In the past there have been questionable ads which when we ask them to pull they do so immediately. I spoke by e-mail with the advertsing exec and he will pull the John Deere ads out of rotation. It wasn't an ad format we had agreed to with them and it extended beyond the space we provide for them.

As to ad blocking software, being on the publisher side of things gives me a different perspective. The revenues we get go toward develope of the next version of the site (which Aaron and I are looking at as part of our long term vision) and toward our own time spent to maintian and run the site (a pretty time consuming endevour!)

Ad blocking does ultimately hurt us, but since everyone doesn't do it, it's hard to quantify. I "think" you can make adjustments to your ad blocker software to allow ads to be served on specified web sites? If that is the case, as a general idea I'd suggest allowing ads to be served on those sites you really enjoy and support (and I know Kfedka you're a premium member, so thanks for that) and blocking them on everything else. That way you derive the benefits of blocking ads when doing web surfing, but still support those sites that are important to you on an ongoing basis. Just my thoughts on the subject.

It's not just the John Deere ad, the Colorado ad does it a minute ago, the Michigan ad does it. Others I don't remember all.

I`m having a problem with the ebay ad that pops up in the left hand corner of the web site. Only when I click on the heading like community and it drops down with your options. Then the ebay ad comes up and I can`t see my options. If I didn`t have them memorized I wouldn`t know which one to click on. I don`t know if this is what you guys were talking about. If it is sorry.

Ya, it happens because you let the curser go up into the header, then it drops down and covers the menue stuff so you can't click on the choise you want.

And when you click on 'refresh icon at the top of the screen, then lower the curser down to be ready to click on 'reports' or something, the curser passes over the header and it drops down.

Now the humminbird ad is dropping down when the curser travels over it.

The new pop up ads coming from the bottom of the page seem to screw up forum pages. When they pop up the screen changes to plain white back drop with plain blue hyperlinks.

Yup, I noticed that today.
