Tacklebox Tales - reader contributions

Post by Mike Carey » Sat May 19, 2007 7:43 am

Hey all, just wanted to give the readers a friendly reminder. The Tacklebox Tales article section is actually a place where the readers can submit stories or articles pertaining to fishing to be posted in a primary section of the web site. So if you have a writing itch to scratch and it's about fishing, e-mail the article to mike@washingtonlakes.com and I will review for posting to this section. Pictures are nice as well. Check out past Tacklebox Tales stories to get a sense of what readers have sent in. Anything fishing related is fair game.

Thanks!

Thought I would put the story of my favorite fishing trip;

I had just turned 16 and was headed for my first overnight trip. I headed to the Snake river below Oxbow dam on the Oregon Idaho border. I got to the river and cast out my pole while I was setting up camp. Next thing I know I hear my bell going off so I run over and set the hook. As I pull up to set the hook I see a fish come 2 feet out of the water doing a back flip. I remember thinking to myself, "this is no catfish"!After what seemed like a life time of jumps and runs I finally won. I landed a 21" small mouth!
After that I figured I couldn't better that trophy, but I was going to try! I threw another juicy night crawler on my 1/o hook and flung it out. This time I had a chance to build my camp fire before my bell started going off again, this time it was a 10-12 pound "trout"! (here steelhead are turned loose between the dams and called trout)
After that the bite slowed down and I caught nothing but a few catfish. Then at dark I went to fish this bridge every one fishes on.
After a half hour there I hooked and landed a 5 foot sturgeon! (I got it in but broke my pole#-o ) So the next day I went and bought a new pole and fished some rivers on the way home catching some nice bass and trout.
It was a great way to explore my independence and really gave me the confidence to keep fishing!

I should read things first I didn't do this right sorry guys! lol](*,)

first time fishing in fifteen years. battle ground lake 6 years ago 2002 im there with my fatherinlaw(bill). we were on the n/e side of the lake , had been there about 1/2 an hour and i hear a big splash behind me i ask bill W.T.F was that he said a land locked schnook. ok, not having a clue, being from san diego. so im on the end of a log and i watch this huge fish swim around the end of the log right up to me and sit there looking at me, i looked at bill and said what do i do? he said "PUSH THE BUTTON" so i did and wound up with this monster.long day but worth it.

As Ben Franklin said: In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom, in water there is bacteria.

Remember:
Water = Poop,
Wine = Health.

Therefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of poop
There is no need to thank me for this valuable information: I'm doing it as a public service.
