I'm curing some eggs with "Pro Glow" egg cure. I'm not much of an egg guy, but have some nice skeins, so figured I'd give it a try. Do you guys freeze your eggs right after curing, or just leave them in the fridge? I'm not planning on fishing til next weekend, or maybe the weekend after......

Umm. If next weekend leave in fridge. If 2 weekends away freeze um. Cured eggs have about a week long shelf life

dont overlook using totally natural eggs for steelhead, borax only, sometimes cures and colors are too much for shy fish that have seen gear

i cure up a few different kinds of eggs, borax only, fire cure pink, fire brine, krill only. One week in the fridge is about the max ill keep them thawed for. any longer then that and that get packed in borax, vacuum sealed and froze

even a week is pushing it, eggs are really touchy, and old eggs are really not effective, not as much as fresher eggs for that matter. And you said it steelheadin, if not going to be used soon, freeze um with lots of borax and vac pack um after frozen to avoid the vac packing process from squishing them. Lots of borax covering it all means much less chance of freezer burn

k, I've done straight borax few times in the past, but figured I'd try something different since I did not have any luck. It was probably due to me being an egg novice as far as technique is concerned. I was straight drifting them, but think I'll try a float this time.

Do you pack the pro cure (wet) type eggs in borax before you freeze them? Or just the borax type cures?

That sucks I had some in a jar sealed for like 3 weeks . Lesson learned.

If you want your eggs to last a lil longer then usual try Potassium Nitrate (Salt Peter) in your mix It brings the color out of the eggs for a longer period. Brown sugar does similar. Im with the Freak. I prefer str8 Borax. Not Boraxo which is soap. It has to be pure Borax. Good Luck

Hey Freaky. Is there anything that you do as a pro to save sand shrimp? I usually just toss them in the river.Anyway that you know to preserve them?

Nope. Those babies die quick. I havent used SS in years. The white easy peel prawns in the store are just as effective and cheap and just thaw the amount you need daily. I never use sandies for steel. No need

If the fish arent biting then I need to take some lemon and cocktail sauce. Good luck this weekend. Show us some hawgs on Monday.

Yessir. Buy a huge frozen pack for 10$ and lasts a month. Cure or dont, both are fine but i dont cure mine. Regular white prawns, steelhead down!

I've used the pre-cooked salad shrimp which you can just thread on the hook like a worm. I have also brined and dyed them which is super easy and cheap and since they are cooked they stay on the hook well. Also used the defrosted raw 71-100ct/lb size. They are the cheapest and just about perfect to pinch in half when running a twin hook trailer rig.

Where do you get that size in raw(71-100) that would be an awesome size. I use the size below that and they are small but the last chuck closest to the head is still a bit large in my opinion. Favorite part is the very end piece right at the end of the tail smallest and toughest part of the shrimp and for some reason alway works the best.

I usually get 'em at Winco in Silver Lake...they come in the 1lb plastic bags in the freezer case. They have 'em at Trader Joe's too which is closer but obviosly more expensive than WinCo. Some places do break them down into 71-90ct and 80-100ct. below that the only smaller ones are salad shrimp or sometimes slightly larger ones sold as 'shrimp meats'.
