A couple things I found out about using braided line for rivers. When you snag you stay snagged. You really have to cut your line. If your lead is stuck its great but if your line wraps a snag your out of luck. Braid dosent give nor does it break off.
I bought Power Pro at Walmart for I believe it was 10 bucks. That is a very good price. I bought some heavier for my trolling reel ,it was 12 bucks. I like braid for bassin. When you set that hook its set even on a long cast.

I have always used the blood knot, but I like that double grinner, gotta go home and practice that one..

True, but at least for me on rivers I only use it for the mainline, never left any braid in a river before.
On the float & jig I have it tied to my weight, on the other end of the weight is the floro leader to the jig/eggs. Weight doesn't get low enough to snag anything.
For tossing jigs for pinks, I tie the braid to 24" of floro via bloodknot. The few times I have gotten snagged it has always been the leader that breaks before the braid.

Long hooksets are a bonus fishing float & jig too. If I am fishing alone, I can freespool that float quite a ways downstream and still be confident that if that sucker goes under I will be able to get a good hookset.

When you get snagged, you have to wrap your line around a stick or something to break off if it's got the line. No reason to cut it at the rod. It will break.

My mistake was using it for a leader on my Flatfish. I usually always run mono for leaders. This time I said I'll give it a try. Big mistake. It got hung up and the flatfish was stuck real nice. Never again will I use it for leader.Im very new to braided line and still playing with it.

when i first started tying the double unit knot, i hated it. but after a little bit of practice it became pretty easy. one thing that helps is trying to match the line diamater between the mono and the braid. i always spool about 1/4 of my reel with mono backing and then spool the braid after joining them with a double uni. braid is expensive so you use less to spool your reel this way. plus tying a tie knot to your spool is much easier with mono than with braid.

They had PowerPro 15, 20, 30 lbs at $14.99 but NO worms.... After reading the above I grabbed a 15 and a 30,,, a jar of Pautzkes Balls of Fire Green Label($2.99). Looked for but didn't find bismuth weights. They did have on close out 24lbs DuraCast at under $9! I hadn't read the above post pertaining to Duracast prior to hittin the road. They didn't have any flouro. Thanks Again! Freddies only had green PP...... LOL
Never seen bismuth (or know what it is, will be googling it later today), but I have seen and purchased tungston in-line egg weights at Walmart before...
Guess I should have said, non-lead sinkers,,,,,, Pierre Lake is on my mind, lead not allowed, I could always use a spark plug//// LOL family issue likely will prevent a trip that far this winter.

I use nuts from the bolts as weights. I have loads of them from sewing machine tables. Nuts work and if you lose them who cares .

Say racfish. Can you direct me to the lake where you lost the 3/8" stainless bolt with the fine threads. It holds the handle on my reel. I could sure use it!! [thumbsup]

Another question for the braid users. Does braid birdsnest in the reel spool likew mono does? I use 30-40 lb test line. The fish dont know what test youre using. What I like about braid is how thin the line is at the 30lb test weight. It feels like 8-10 lb test. Im slowing changing my reels over to braid. I do wha Elijah does. The bottom layer is mono with braid on top. I just put mono on my baitcaster. I think for springers it will be ideal.

Racfish - the braid will birds nest if you aren't paying attention when casting. I do find it easier to de-snarl though, and it doesn't kink at all. A product that I would recommend is Tuf-Line Duracast. It is touted as the best braid for spinning reels, but it lends itself to bait casters just as well. They seem to have fixed their initial coating problem and it is an awesome product. The coating gives it a bit of stiffness that will stop the dreaded tip wrap problems of the standard limp braided lines. I'd go with the 15 lb line which, if you check the specs, the actual break strength is 25lbs. I usually put a layer or two of mono down on the spool before filling the rest with braid. Some of the newer spools lend themselves to braid better than the spools in the older reels and you may not need to use the mono at all.

X 100 couldn't have said it better myself! I've used it with great success.

I like the power pro 20 pound with line diameter of 6 pound. I used it in rivers and lakes. Only snagged two times where I had to break the braid. I waded in as far as i could and broke the braid on so it wouldnt leave a long braided line in the river. It breaks the same as 20 pound mono. The mono leader is suppose to break 100 percent of the time if its strength is less than the braid. I like it for lake fishing too becuase a small flick of the wrist and the hook is set. Plus it can be used for more than one season. Havnt had the wax or covering of the Power Pro come off and stuck on my guides.
