Biggest muley I ever had a shot on...

Post by fishaholictaz » Fri Oct 15, 2010 6:01 am

Finally have resident status here in WY so I bought a general deer tag. Hunted Tue. with a buddy and ended up spotting a real nice buck at 8 am. there were tooooo many hunters in the area so we waited until 3 to go in after him. We parked at a camp and walked in. Less then 700 yrds up the hill from the truck I looked up and saw a doe. The doe looked back to my left so I followed her lead and was looking at the buck we had seen, he was bedded 50 yards away. I threw up my muzzel-loader and touched her off. Instead of a cloud of smoke and a big bang all I got was a little POP#-o Needless to stay I got the big old finger as the buck cleared the top of the hill as I was putting on a new cap. I may hunt more I have time depending on the area. My tag is good state wide just got to follow the rules of each unit. Some units are running through Nov.. If I go out again it will be with my gun and not my brothers. (just need to find a back site for it):-"

It sounds like you didn't actually get a shot off if the cap didn't ignite the powder charge, major bummer! Is WY like our state with black powder regs in that you aren't allowed to use 209 primers as an ignition source?

There are no restriction on muzzel-loaders here you just got to hunt with modern firearms#-o I like the old ones they aren't dependable but they are fun:cheers: I can shoot a crossbow durnig archery season here I might switch[confused]

Very crummy Taz. It happens to best of us. I`ve had three incidents that I have missed trophy bucks and a trophy bull do to my gun. Two of them I`d say my fault for not checking. That`s what keeps us going back. When you sit around elk or deer camp half the stories are about the ones that got away.
