Sevylor Fish Hunter

Post by kuttkilla » Sat Mar 15, 2008 8:53 pm

Does anyone have any experience with these boats? My primary use would be trolling area lakes with a trolling motor and battery and taking it out every now and then on some larger lakes when there in no wind. I would be mounting a Minnekota trolling motor on the back, and my question with that is - What is involved in mounting a little electric motor? I'm seriously looking at this, or I'm looking at a float tube with waders and fins...what do you guys/gals think? I value any information if you own one, have been in one, or have an opinion on the matter (thanks).

I like the boat you already have...I don't know why you would need it...

I had a Sevylor fish Hunter...
I liked it, and it wasn't that bad to purchase in terms of price, but it didn't last very long. I went through about 2 in 4 years...They just get little leaks and stuff in them and what not...

To mount a minn kota on it you have to buy Sevylors motor mount...It was over like $50 last time I saw them for sale, and then you just mount the minn kota to that...I wouldn't buy a big deep cycle for it...It would be too heavy and probably not good for the boat...I used a deep cycle battery I got at Joes. It weighed under 20lbs compared to most other deep cycles (weighing in around 50-60lbs) and it ran that little Sevylor motor all day...

So it sounds like Sevylor makes trolling motors? Do you have a link to the motor bracket if I chose to go with a Minnekota trolling motor mount -- also, what battery -- a link perhaps?

Link to motor bracket

Battery was just some small deep cycle battery I picked up at Joes...It was tough to find...

That's what a I was thinking...what's a good electric trolling motor for under $100, better yet, how about used? Does anyone have a link to the Svylor trolling motor they make? Do they still make a motor? How would a big battery go on the floor -- wouldn't the corners of the battery sink into the raft? I bet it would be a blast to fish out of for browns and bows on opening day...

you couldn't go with anything more then a 30lb thrust Minn Kota..They are like $110 new. Any more power and you would just fly across the lake in that thing....

Sevylor trolling motors are sold at Joes also..

Bingo, thanks Sam. Does the boat cover really help out? I heard the boat was/is hard to turn left and right, etc...?

I don't really know about that boat cover. It couldn't hurt, put it that way, but then again, they don't prevent seam leaks or anything really..Just do your best to not drag it or anything and you should be good...

the boat is difficult to turn at first since there are no rudders really...It takes some getting used to...And with wind, boy that thing is all over the place...

I have one of those fishhunters I fish out of,there are not too bad. It's like Sam said get the mounting kit for the minn kota and a battery besides the big deep cell.I like mine it works for what I use it for.Thats on small lakes with not alot of wind.I have the 30 lbs thrust minn kota.Works great I troll around the lake with the speed set on one.I actuly goes pretty good if you turn it all the way up.But I still use my float tube more than anything on the lakes I fish.Just easier to pack up and go than lugging the boat battery and motor plus all the gear around. But I would recomend them. They are fun for little lakes with out breaking the bank.Plus by the patch kit you will most likely need it.Always good to have anyways.

I just bought an Intex Mariner 4 for $200 at Cabela's Grand Opening and the motor mount online for $30. I had considered buying one of the Sevylor's, but this one seems much better built. It has floor boards, an inflatable keel, and heavy-duty rub strips. I will be takingt it out for its maiden voyage tomorrow w/ my 19lb thrust Minn-kota. I'll let y'all know how it works out for fishing a small lake.

Perfect, thanks Redneck. This sounds like a good raft, and I'm glad you brought it up because I was wondering if there were great rafts like this, and it sounds there are. I'm eagerly awaiting your report back. Thanks brotha.

that little sevylor trolling motor is about a quarter the weight of a 30# minn kota. I have no idea how you would mount a motor that heavy on a raft. Well I know how you would but thats a lot of weight.

that sevylor is about $70 at joes
