New boat this weekend

Post by beerbohm » Tue Mar 04, 2008 10:40 pm

I went down to Skipper Bills last friday and droped of the check for my new boat. I went with the 2008 Starcraft Starfish 176 with a 115hp merc. Lawrance fish finder, Minnkota bow mount, 2 live wells, locking rod storage 4 swivel seats, am/fm radio with mp3 plug in, 32 gallon gas tank, tilt steering, 8hp electric start kicker with tie bar & fuel hook up, Canvas top side and walk through fish curtains and a swim platform with ladder. Looks like I will be picking it up this friday. Needless to say I am pretty excited!!

This is a far cry from my 10' rowboat that I have been fishing out of for years.

Got any advise/suggestions on a new boat I will take it all.

do everything you can to keep the resale value of your boat as high as it can be.
Flush the motor out every time you are done using it saltwater. Even rinse off the entire boat and trailer after it gets some saltwater on it.
Save every maintenance receipt.
Clean your boat.
Keep the inside of your boat dry when in storage to prevent mildew or rust.
Invest in a good cover.
Keep the boat as clean as possible. This can't be stressed.
Get some good cleaning supplies.

Good luck and show us some pictures when you get them...

Take it out and enjoy it. Sounds like a really nice boat. I'll bet you will have lots of fun using it.:bounce:

I went and bought a huge carport canvas awning for it to be stored in. The boat will probley not touch salt water for quite some time but I will be cleaning it alot I am sure. I figure after spending that amount of money on it I want to keep it pretty. Help me out with some names for her. One name I was thinking of was "Your Money" (I am a state employe so it kinda fits) LOL....

After you complete your break-in hours on the motor take the motor in and have it's break-in tune up done.

One thing that really helps resale is if it is known you took the zen leecher fishing in your boat.

When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Hey I love my 10' rowboat  Congrats on the new boat. My advice would be to get out and use it as much as possible...don't worry about the cosmetics (how clean it is), just use it, keep the engine in good shape, and don't hit any rocks with the hull.

The "Tax Break"

Your paid by taxes (Tax), and your not at work (break), right?

Don't forget just to go use and enjoy it. The world isn't about resale, and odds are you will keep it for a while. Also remember that you can replace things like carpet and repaint, which boost resale a great deal for a small price.
