Trout pics

Post by JT26 » Thu Jun 28, 2007 10:20 pm

got a whole bunch of pics from fishing for trout this year. there all from beaver lake. I hate keeping so many, i wish he could have out some of them back, but the warden told us it was ilegal if hooked with bait.

my brother and I both got some triploids that day. he got 3, and i got 4.

Nice stringers JT...

My advice. Forget about catch and release when you are using bait...

Dress, dehead, and descale the fish and then saute them in tumeric butter..

don't let the pan get too hot... keep the burning setting in the 3 to 4 range..

(e.g. under 350F).....

when they look done they are great eating... and good for you to...

if done right the meat will just peel away from the skeletal structure..

and don't remove the skin.. that's where all the omega 3's are...
Fish doesn't smell "fishy" because it's fish. Fish smells "fishy" when it's rotten.

Doesn't the regs booklet suggest removing the skin before cooking? I guess it really depends on what lake they are living in eh?

Those are some really nice fish. I know what you mean. Your best bet is to get a vacuum sealer and save some for winter. They dont taste as good but alot better than just throwing them in the freezer. Littleriver is right, when using hook and bait its best to keep them, the survival rate is pretty slim. But I dont know if the warden explained it right or not. When you are fishing w/ bait, you can throw them back, but you are only allowed to catch 1 daily limit if retained or not. Unlike using artificial where your allowed to catch unlimited, as long as only a daily limit is retained

nice pics. that would be perfect smoker material :)...

gpc got this one right you can release them it just counts as your limit. with bait only of coarse. unless they are gonna die, then you have to keep them.

Nice job out there JT. Hope you got a big family cause you guys got trout for days. What were you guys using for bait to haul in those nice stringers?

for the triploids we used worms, but fished them same way as power bait. for the small ones, just two yellow power eggs with aniseoil on them.

and tnj8222, thats exactly what we did. my dad actually bought a smoker just to smoke those fish. he feels bad if he wastes them.
