POR River Conditions Update

Got on the POR today to test out my motor configuration. Water level has risen slightly since I was last up, a few weeks ago. Sloughs are still frozen, except Davis which is mostly open. Most fish were in the main channel yet, nothing near the sloughs yet.

As a side note, the boat ran well. Better than expected really! Trolls at 2.4 mph, and tops around 26 mph. 3/4 throttle yields 24mph, for a sweet spot. Very happy with the results. Can't wait to get on the lakes now and catch some muskies! I will actually be able to do a 'Milk Run' now, rather than just use the trolling motor all the way around the lake! Maybe that will up my success a bit, but I can see it will also have it's disadvantages of missing potential new honey holes.....

I was out on the PO today also and I didn't see you. LOL I was in Ashenfelter bay chasing Mr pike . Water temps were 37.8 and the water was lower then the last time i was out but not much. We didn't get any hits on pike so after 4 hours we tried to catch smallies up by the dam. I was throwing a Texas red Rebel craw crank and got a nice hit right as I lifted the bait out of the water.
It turned out not to be a S. M. though. At first I thought it was a Walleye but it turned out to be a very long skinny Brown trout with a huge head. It was about 22" long but only weighed 3 pounds. Only fish we got all day.

Hey Doug and Fish-N-Fool,

You are both making me very ANXIOUS to get back over to the Pend Oreille. I just hope that the water warms up a little more in the next 2 weeks. That would certainly help the fishing to be much better I am sure. I know Doug and I are working on some logistical matters to see about getting over there with the price of Gas being so ridiculously high, but it looks like we may very well be able to pull it together last minute if everything falls into place like we are hoping. We will keep you all posted and let you know more as time gets closer. I certainly like the idea of the new Rule that has been put into place for the Tourney and think it will be a great way to make an impact. Guess we will just have to wait and see :) Have a good one.

Nate
