Can i use an open face reel for deep sea fishing?

Can i use an open face reel for deep sea fishing?

I have an 7 foot rod with a nice open faced reel 35 lb test. Will this be ok for deep sea for rockfish, halibut, etc?

People use open face spinning reels for deep sea fishing every day. And surf fishing.
